Oregon: A shipwreck in black and white (2019)

When we reached Oregon in May, 2019, our first stop after settling in was to visit the Oregon Coast. I have photographed the Peter Iredale shipwreck several times. Every time we see it, more of it is gone, victim to the ravages of time. The shipwreck has been a tourist attraction since it wrecked. We … Continue reading Oregon: A shipwreck in black and white (2019)

Oregon: Newport & Depoe Bay (2012)

In November 2012, we met up with some photographer buddies in Newport to do a photowalk. After we were done, we headed home via Depoe Bay. As I recall, there was an amazing storm with high winds that weekend, so the wave action was pretty awesome in both Newport and Depoe Bay. Newport Before we … Continue reading Oregon: Newport & Depoe Bay (2012)

Oregon: Pacific City (2012)

For our wedding anniversary in 2012, we rented a house on the beach in Pacific City, Oregon. Despite living in Oregon for almost 3 decades at that point, neither of us remember being there before. Pacific City has the "other" Haystack Rock on the Oregon Coast, but it's not accessible by foot, like the one … Continue reading Oregon: Pacific City (2012)

Oregon: Yaquina Head lighthouse (2013)

This was the last time I got together with my Google+ photowalk buddies before we left Oregon. That year, we all joined the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk, which was held in October, 2013. We all met at the Yaquina Head lighthouse, in the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. The photowalk leader arranged for us to … Continue reading Oregon: Yaquina Head lighthouse (2013)

Oregon: Astoria Regatta Bicentennial (2011)

In 2011, Astoria celebrated its bicentennial with a 4 day celebration. Part of the celebration was a concert held at Camp Rilea. There were 3 performances: a National Guard band, Phil Vassar, and Reba McEntire. The concert was held the day after the horrible stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair just before Sugarland took … Continue reading Oregon: Astoria Regatta Bicentennial (2011)

Oregon: Southern Oregon Coast (2003)

In 2003, we headed to the Coos Bay and Bandon area to meet up with a friend of mine who lived in Myrtle Point, Oregon. Since we love lighthouses, and there are two lighthouses in the area, we checked them out. Cape Arago State Park  The beach at the state park. Amazing view. Coquille River … Continue reading Oregon: Southern Oregon Coast (2003)

Oregon: Whale watching

While we were at Heceta Head Lighthouse, we had the opportunity to observe a gray whale down below in the Pacific Ocean. The interpretive volunteers at the lighthouse said the whale had been there for at least 2-3 hours. The whale would stay up for about 3-5 minutes, occasionally spouting through the blowholes. Yes, that's … Continue reading Oregon: Whale watching

Oregon: Heceta Head lighthouse

Just north of Florence on Hwy 101, the Heceta Head lighthouse is often referred to as the most photographed lighthouse in the United States, but a search shows several lighthouses claim the same thing.  🙂 All I know is that the proximity of the Sea Lion Caves and the view of the lighthouse from there … Continue reading Oregon: Heceta Head lighthouse
