Friday, May 8, 2020 was the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (V-E) Day. I know of at least three flyovers (Phoenix, AZ; Portland, OR; and Houston, TX). The flyover in Phoenix was courtesy of the Commemorative Air Force Airbase Arizona museum in Mesa, AZ. Three planes were in the flyover: a B-25 Mitchell “Maid in the Shade”; a C-47 Skytrain; and the B-17 bomber known as Sentimental Journey.
While I took plenty of pictures of Sentimental Journey in our late 2018 visit to the museum, I realized that I had never shared photos of the plane while in the air. I took these at the 2018 Luke Days airshow in Glendale, AZ (March 17, 2018). I shared my Blue Angels photos from that airshow already, but I took so many photos that day (over 3,000) some got lost. I didn’t realize then that though I captured crystal clear photos, the unspoken convention in aviation photography is that you need to show motion in the propellers. 🙂
The smoke in the air is from a WWII theatrical bit with Japanese Zeros.
