Arizona: Oatman on Route 66 (2015)

For Thanksgiving in 2015, we headed to Bullhead City to spend the holiday with Bob’s brother. We scheduled a 4-day weekend, so we took a day trip to Oatman. We got there pretty early, before most stores opened, so we had a chance to wander. We were too early for the donkeys, though. Because it was chilly that day, we didn’t want to hang out long enough to wait for the donkeys.

Once we left Oatman, we decided to take the old Route 66 back to Kingman instead of Bullhead City. This drive has a lot of twists and turns, but there were a couple of places to pull off. In road terms, it reminds me of Apache Trail. Barely two lanes wide, minimal shoulder, and winding with switchbacks. This is not a road to be driving your RV or travel trailer on. 🙂
