The next leg of our road trip to Denver, CO, following the itinerary set out in Going with the flow, from Gallup, NM to Santa Fe, NM.
For most, this is too short of a drive, but we are determined to take each leg of the road trip in 4 hours or less. Since we had a bit of time before arriving at today’s RV campground, we stopped in at the El Malpais National Monument Visitor Center about an hour after leaving.
While we couldn’t stay long enough to do any of the attractions, we did pick up some brochures and information for our trip to New Mexico in late September/early October for the Balloon Fiesta. I’m sure we’ll be stopping in either before or after the balloon festivities. The bonus part? At the current time, this particular national monument is fee free.
Once we made it through the Albuquerque area of I-40, we stopped at the La Bajada rest area on I-25 for some lunch and rest. Of course, the moment we decide to leave, we spot an incoming rainstorm. 🙂 It’s always fun driving an RV through rain, especially while keeping an eagle eye on other drivers.
By the time we got to our campground, the rain had mostly stopped. We checked in, got escorted to our site, and setup for the night. The spaces are pretty spacious and most of them have foliage in between so you don’t see your neighbor.
Unfortunately, it looks like we will have rain on and off through the night, as well as a possibility of lightning. We are looking forward to tomorrow’s trip to Pueblo, CO.
