When we went to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in October, we planned to see two events: the Special Shapes Rodeo and the 2nd Saturday Night Magic Glow. We also had tickets to the Music Fiesta, held on the 2nd Saturday as well.
We have no images from the Music Fiesta, as I was asked by security to put away my camera. It was a cool lineup: Billy Currington, Phil Vassar, and a local band. We got to meet Phil Vassar through his fan club, which was pretty awesome.
Unfortunately, the glow that evening was cancelled due to wind speeds. However, pilots were asked to fire the burners in a practice known as “candlesticking” – because the baskets and burners look like a lit candlestick.
While we were disappointed with the wind being too high, we knew we’d be coming back to the Balloon Fiesta. We’re making that dream come true this year – we’ll be in Albuquerque from September 30 through October 14, and staying in the RV parking on-site at the Fiesta. We can’t wait to experience all that Albuquerque and the Balloon Fiesta have to offer!
