The backstory
This photo was taken on the first weekend at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, on Sunday, October 6. I can remember the precise date because only the Dawn Patrol took off on Saturday, due to all the fog that kept the balloons grounded.
We spent the morning in the media tower. I was perfectly positioned to capture this moment when it happened. As a lot of photographers will tell you, it takes a steady hand/tripod, patience, and just a little luck to get this angle.
