New Mexico: Balloon Fiesta, Day 1

Initially, the morning started off with some clouds, so the pilot briefing didn’t take place until 6 a.m. – throwing the entire schedule into disarray. I kept up to date with the Balloon Fiesta app, and they sent out alerts when there were updates.

The morning was kind of a mishmash of a Dawn Patrol, Balloon Glow (before sunrise), and hope of a mass ascension (no such luck).

Dawn Patrol

Some balloons did go aloft.

After sunrise

The opening ceremony that wasn’t

When we saw the Canon balloon go up with the American flag, we were hopeful that we’d get the opening ceremony and the mass ascension. We didn’t.

More morning photos

This is a mix of the rest of the morning. As you can tell from some of the photos, there was a pretty thick fog layer at times.

The gas balloon inflation and launch for the America’s Challenge were scrubbed for today, and we’ll know more after the pilot briefing at noon tomorrow.

Evening Glow

Plenty of setup and balloon glow photos to share, so here you go!

Back at it again tomorrow. 🙂 Hoping for an awesome mass ascension.
